Velcome to the artwork & steps taken to make 'Vial of Youth

'Vial of Youth' was my 2005 graduate film based around the life of Countess Erzsebeth Bathory, with a twist.
Created by myself and worked on with Caroline Lewis (sound & music), Robbie J (narrator) and Mark Upton (supervisor).
I am proud of this film and so happy with the award it received (see the last post on this page).
The artwork production can be seen as you scroll downwards, leading up to the final production which you can watch from here.

UPDATE 28/10/2008:
'Vial of Youth' is screening not only in the Brisbane International Animation Festival 2008 this week and in the International Animation Day lineup around the world, but I was also interview and had my photo taken for the local paper. Me and one big yellow wall!

Thankyou to Dennis Bathory for the support to go ahead and make this film, good luck with your own projects.

The Idea?

I came up with the idea to do a vampire themed film after I drew myself in this little cartoon. From then I had to go find a subject other than Vlad & Dracula. When I found the Countess the ideas and drawings flowed...

Character & Prop Design

I spent alot of time trying to find the character of the Countess, reading, image research etc. I wanted to make sure I could set the period too in the props.

Background Development

These are the background for the film. These were the main features of my film, so they had to be planned out for pans and multiple layers for depth of field. Painted in photoshop I wanted them to appear dark yet inviting.

Winning Awards

'Vial of Youth' took home the 2006 Pacific Film and Television Commission's Queensland New Filmmakers Award for Best Animation. This was my first EVER trophy and I was absolutely shocked. On the night I had the support of my boyfriend Maik Hempel (Splicefest Rashman creator). My friend Anthony Chueng also took home an award and I got to celebrate with my fellow industry pals John and Julie Cox who were awarded for their contribution to the film industry with animatronics and VSFX.

My film has also screened in the International Student Film Festival in
A
rgentina in 2006 and continues to be viewed at You Tube with great comments.

Thankyou to all involved.
